The Macomb Orchard Trail Commission
|
The Macomb Orchard Trail Commission, formed
in July 2002, is charged with acquiring and converting the abandoned
railroad into a nearly 24 mile recreational trail.
The Commission will also maintain the trail.
The Commission is made up of Macomb County, Huron Clinton Metroparks
and three communities along the trail, Washington and Shelby Townships
and the City of Richmond. Each has a great interest in the recreational
features of Macomb County. Each organization has a representative
on the Commission who is actively involved in the development
of the trail.
|
Joseph Youngblood,
Assistant Director Parks and Recreation Shelby Township;
Sue Nyquist, Chief Planner HCMA; Troy
Jeschke, City Planner for the City of Richmond.
(Front Row - Left to Right) Gary Kirsch,
Chairman of the MOTC, Supervisor Washington Township;
Don Brown, Vice Chairman of the MOTC, Commissioner
Macomb County.
|
The Commission works together with the support
of the Friends of Macomb Orchard Trail and the Michigan Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy. They research, plan and direct the development of
the trail. To become a member of the Commission, communities must
commit to the betterment of the trail financially, and appoint
a representative who will actively participate in developing the
trail with the other communities.
For meeting minutes dating
before 2002 see the Friend
of the Macomb Orchard Trail website.
